Southern Special Overview

In the south of Tanzania , stretching inland from the coast, lies Africa's largest wildlife sanctuary; the Selous game reserve, crossed by the Rufiji River and is internationally famous for its animals. Here one can enjoy boat/walking safaris, wildlife observation and bird watching. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery and wildlife of Ruaha National Park boarded by the Ruaha River and offers spectacular viewpoints. It also has a greater concentration of wildlife on the banks of the river and around the water holes.

Bordering to Selous game reserve on the south and Udzungwa national park in the west, Mikumi plays in important central role in the southern safari circuit. In fact Mikumi is more or less an extension to the vast Selous game reserve and offers similar wildlife, vegetation and other sightseeing opportunities. Udzungwa is an easy day trip from Mikumi. This is a unique mountain rain forest and one of Tanzania 's most recent established parks. Contains the greatest altitudinal range of forest in East Africa-enjoy this walking safari with breathtaking views over the rift valley and witness the beauty of Sanje Waterfalls.

Day 1:  

07:00 Depart by road to Selous Game Reserve.
Lunch at Rufiji Camp.
15:00 Have an afternoon game drive.
Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.

Day 2:  

08:00 Full day game drive in the Reserve with picnic lunch. Selous, Africa's largest wildlife sanctuary with an area of 54,600 sq.km is bigger that Denmark and 4 times the size of Serengeti. It has the World's largest number of big game - elephant, buffalo, rhino, sable antelope.  Selous also contains wildebeest, eland, giraffe,waterbuck, zebra, impala, hippo, leopard and lion.  There are about 350 species of bird life.
Dinner and overnight at Rufiji Camp.

Day 3:  

07:00 Early morning walking safari before breakfast . This safari allows an intimate impression of the African bush and wildlife, which is unforgettable and brings you closest to pristine nature.
Lunch at Camp.
Afternoon boat safari on Rufiji River ; those who experience this safari can verify the fact that this mighty river boasts Africa 's highest concentration of hippopotamus. Bird-life can be seen along the banks of the river.
Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.

Day 4:  

08:00 Collect lunch box and depart for a full day game drive.
Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.

Day 5:  

07:00 Collect lunch boxes and depart for Mikumi. This Park, is rich in wildlife and contains buffalo, elephant, lion, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, impala and hippo. Lunch at camp/lodge. Here game viewing can be excellent on the plains to the north of the main road, with substantial elephant and lion populations present, along with large herds of grazers.
Dinner and overnight at Vuma Hill Camp.

Day 6:  

06:00 Early depart for Ruaha National Park .
Lunch at Ruaha River Lodge. Ruaha, with an area of 10,300sq.km. is the second largest park, and second largest elephant sanctuary in Tanzania . The great Ruaha River , which flows along its entire eastern border, creating spectacular gorges and scenery, features a large number of hippos and crocodiles.
The wide variety of animals include Greater and Lesser Kudu, roan and
sable antelope.  Bird life is rich, with over 370 species recorded.

15:00 Afternoon game drive in Ruaha Park .
Dinner and overnight at Ruaha River Lodge.

Day 7:  

08:00 With lunch box, depart for a full day game drive.
Dinner and overnight at Ruaha River Lodge.

Day 8:  

06:00 Early depart for Mikumi Park . Lunch at the camp.
15:00 Afternoon game drive in Mikumi Park.
Dinner and overnight at Vuma Hill Camp.

Day 9:  

08:00 Morning game drive in Mikumi Park .
Lunch at the Camp. Afternoon drive back to Dar-es-salaam.
