This important city on the north of Tanzania, near the Tanzania-Kenya border, is undoubtedly the “Tourist Mecca” of Tanzania. It is the most important tourist gateway into Tanzania. Most of the tourists entering into Tanzania overland from Kenya and those flying into Kilimanjaro International airport and even those finishing or starting their safari into the northern circuit tend to pass Arusha. Places to Visit

A number of Maasai villages near Arusha town offer opportunity of cultural tourism whereby one can experience the nomadic way of life and customs of the Maasai people. Villages include Longido, Ng’iresi and Mulala. For buying Curio one can visit shops at the Clock Tower and India Road areas and Cultural Heritage in the out skirts of Arusha town. Lake Duluti, about 10 Kms from Arusha is also another place worth visiting. This small lake will be of particular interest to birdwatchers. Other places include Usa river, Meserani snake park and of course climbing mount Meru.

Today all national parks are connected to Arusha. There is an improved road network to the parks close by in the northern circuit such as Arusha national park, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro. Nowadays there are daily scheduled flights from Arusha to these parks. The parks distant to Arusha, in the southern and western circuits can also be reached easily with daily scheduled flights out of Arusha and Kilimanjaro airports.
